［古文・原文］

月日は百代の過客（はくたいのかかく）にして、行きかふ年もまた旅人なり。舟の上に生涯を浮かべ、馬の口とらへて老いを迎ふる者は、日々旅にして旅を栖（すみか）とす。古人も多く旅に死せるあり。予も、いづれの年よりか、片雲の風に誘はれて、漂泊（ひょうはく）の思ひやまず、海浜（かいひん）にさすらへ、去年（こぞ）の秋、江上の破屋に蜘蛛の古巣を払ひて、やや年も暮れ、春立てる霞の空に、白河の関越えんと、そぞろ神の物につきて心を狂はせ、道祖神（どうそじん）の招きにあひて取るもの手につかず、股引の破れをつづり、笠の緒付けかへて、三里に灸すうるより、松島の月まづ心にかかりて、住めるかたは人に譲り、杉風（さんぷう）が別墅（べつしよ）に移るに、

道祖神（どうそじん、どうそしん）は、村境、峠などの路傍にあって外来の疫病や悪霊を防ぐ神である。のちには縁結びの神、旅行安全の神、子どもと親しい神とされ、男根形の自然石、石に文字や像を刻んだものなどがある。
